Why the Amex Cashback Everyday Card is the “Free Money” Hack You Need

No annual fee. 5% welcome bonus. But you need to know the £3,000 rule before you apply. Here is my honest review.

Is it really “Free Money”?

If you live in the UK, you know that free money is rare. The American Express Cashback Everyday Credit Card is one of the few exceptions, provided you use it correctly. It has no annual fee, which means it costs you nothing to keep in your wallet.

I built this site to explain exactly how to use it, and to share my referral link which usually gives you a better deal than the public site.

🚀 Why use a Referral Link?

Standard public offers often limit the 5% welcome bonus to 3 months (capped at £100). By using a referral link, you can historically unlock an offer valid for up to 5 months (often capped at £125).

The “Catch”: The £3,000 Rule

This is the most important part of this review. To filter out inactive users, American Express has a strict rule:

⚠️ You MUST spend £3,000 per year

To receive any cashback at all, you must spend a minimum of £3,000 on the card within your membership year. If you spend £2,999, you get £0 back. Make sure you use this card for your groceries, fuel, and transport to easily hit this target.

Cashback Rates Breakdown

Spend Amount Cashback Rate
Welcome Bonus (First 3-5 months) 5.0% (Capped at £100-£125)
Spend up to £10,000 0.5%
Spend above £10,000 1.0%

✅ The Good

  • No Annual Fee: It’s free to hold.
  • Amex Offers: Get money off at places like Hilton, Boots, and Lululemon just by saving offers in the app.
  • Protection: excellent fraud protection and customer service.

❌ The Bad

  • Foreign Fees: Charges 2.99% abroad (See my Monzo tip below).
  • Acceptance: Small corner shops might not take it.
  • Interest: 29.4% APR means you must pay in full every month.
